Mother’s Day Musings

“You’re really going to love Mom.”  Too true.  Studies and surveys of consumer trends tell us that Mothers Day is the holiday which garners the most phone calls and gift and card purchases of the year in terms of remembering one person in our lives.  Dream therapists tell us the baby in a pregnant mom’s dreams represents herself.  Science has now confirmed that each child conceived by a woman leaves its DNA trace in its mother’s body for the remainder of that mother’s life regardless of pregnancy loss due to abortion or miscarriage.  It is no surprise, then, that women can usually tell you the age an unborn child would be decades after such a loss.  The memory of that child is still physically present in her.  How, then, can we continue to minimize the effects of abortion on our society?

While Senator Mike Lee and ten co-sponsors call on the US Congress to pass a resolution asking that “Congress and States should gather information about and correct abusive, unsanitary and illegal abortion practices and the interstate referral of women and girls to facilities engaged in dangerous or illegal second and third semester procedures” in response to the continuing exposure (one in D.C. and one in New York - see videos below) of the many physical harms to women being committed by abortion, there remains a strange silence about the terrible emotional and psychological trauma abortion causes many women (and men).  Post-abortion syndrome has been linked to many troubling symptoms and behaviors, including depression, promiscuity, addictive and self-destructive behaviors.  It can often be the cause of a failure to bond between a mother and a later child.

Mother’s Day may be a time which holds a bittersweet or even a dreaded feeling for you or someone you know. Life Centers offers post-abortion counseling and referrals to help heal the wounds of a mother’s heart. We also offer free ultrasounds allowing a woman to see for herself the baby growing within her so that she can celebrate being a loving mom every Mother’s Day to come.
