Humane Care Needed for Humans Too

U.S. Representative Trent Franks has amended H.R. 1797 to protect some unborn babies nationwide from the excruciating pain they experience during dismemberment in an abortion.  The bill would prohibit abortion nationwide from being performed after 20 weeks gestation except when an acute physical condition endangers the life of the mother.  Medical evidence shows that babies experience pain at least by 20 weeks of gestation which is the basis for the legislation.  In fact, Dr. Steven Zielinski and colleagues have research going back to the 1980s showing that unborn babies have evidenced feeling pain as early as 8-9 weeks gestation.  Dr. Zeilinski  has testified before Congress that babies as young as 8 ½ weeks feel pain, and that given the right circumstances unborn children can be seen crying in the womb.  “Functioning neurological structures necessary for pain sensation are in place as early as 8 weeks, but certainly by 13 ½ weeks gestation. Sensory nerves, including nociceptors, reach the skin of the fetus before the 9th week of gestation. The first detectable brain activity occurs in the thalamus between the 8th and the 10th weeks. The movement of electrical impulses through the neural fibers and spinal column takes place between 8 and 9 weeks gestation. By 13 ½ weeks, the entire sensory nervous system functions as a whole in all parts of the body.” Further medical research continues to confirm the ability of a very young unborn baby to feel pain.  See www.doctorsonfetalpain.com to read more about this medical evidence.

With all the evidence showing the suffering very young babies in the womb go through in an abortion, Franks’ legislation seems barely to address the issue, but as he himself says, “…we, as a nation, find ourselves at a point at which we don’t offer unborn children even the most basic protections - even protections we extend to animals and property.”  If you would like to see this legislation pass, please contact your U.S. representative and urge them to support H.R.1797.  If you are pregnant and have questions about your developing baby, or would like to have a free ultrasound so that you can make a fully informed decision regarding your baby, please call or come into our center.

The High Price of “Free Sex”

Many of the clients who call or come in to Life Centers do so because they have realized they may be facing paying a far higher price for so-called “free sex” then they expected.  That price may be a pregnancy they feel unprepared to handle, emotional damage resulting from feeling used rather than loved, physical problems from birth control or STIs, or post-abortion trauma leading to depression or addictive behaviors.  Now, doctors are warning that the price of “free” sexual activity may include your life as a new strain of gonorrhea is rapidly on the rise.

The antibiotic-resistant form of gonorrhea, HO41, reportedly found only 2 years ago in Japan, may be much worse than AIDS because the bacteria is much more aggressive and will affect more people quickly.  Getting gonorrhea from this strain might put a person into septic shock causing death within several days.  William Smith, Director of the National Coalition of STD Directors, said that this is an emergency situation.  “As time moves on, it’s getting more hazardous.”  Smith is urging Congress to allocate additional funding of $54 million for research to try to develop treatments and conduct a public awareness campaign.  However, doctors say that once again, the true avoidance of this disease would be to practice sex in the context of a pure, monogamous relationship with a person of the opposite sex, the original design of marriage.  Perhaps the priceless gift of sexuality saved for and exclusively given to a lifetime mate is actually the only truly free sex after all. If you have questions regarding the price you may find yourself paying as the result of choices you are facing, contact us. We are here 24 hours a day to listen to your concerns and offer help. 1-800-973-7334. www.vclifecenters.com

Mother’s Day Musings

“You’re really going to love Mom.”  Too true.  Studies and surveys of consumer trends tell us that Mothers Day is the holiday which garners the most phone calls and gift and card purchases of the year in terms of remembering one person in our lives.  Dream therapists tell us the baby in a pregnant mom’s dreams represents herself.  Science has now confirmed that each child conceived by a woman leaves its DNA trace in its mother’s body for the remainder of that mother’s life regardless of pregnancy loss due to abortion or miscarriage.  It is no surprise, then, that women can usually tell you the age an unborn child would be decades after such a loss.  The memory of that child is still physically present in her.  How, then, can we continue to minimize the effects of abortion on our society?

While Senator Mike Lee and ten co-sponsors call on the US Congress to pass a resolution asking that “Congress and States should gather information about and correct abusive, unsanitary and illegal abortion practices and the interstate referral of women and girls to facilities engaged in dangerous or illegal second and third semester procedures” in response to the continuing exposure (one in D.C. and one in New York - see videos below) of the many physical harms to women being committed by abortion, there remains a strange silence about the terrible emotional and psychological trauma abortion causes many women (and men).  Post-abortion syndrome has been linked to many troubling symptoms and behaviors, including depression, promiscuity, addictive and self-destructive behaviors.  It can often be the cause of a failure to bond between a mother and a later child.

Mother’s Day may be a time which holds a bittersweet or even a dreaded feeling for you or someone you know. Life Centers offers post-abortion counseling and referrals to help heal the wounds of a mother’s heart. We also offer free ultrasounds allowing a woman to see for herself the baby growing within her so that she can celebrate being a loving mom every Mother’s Day to come.

Who Profits?

As the horrors of the true “war on women” being waged by abortion providers continue to emerge in the trial of abortionist Dr. Kermit Gosnell, who is being charged with five counts of murder as well as several violations of safety and health codes in the running of a Philadelphia  abortion clinic, three states passed legislation to safeguard their citizens from some of the many negative consequences of an industry which reaps hundreds of millions of dollars from the susceptibility of women and girls faced with difficult decisions at a time when such women feel most vulnerable.  Virginia, Indiana and Alabama each passed laws in the past two weeks which protect women and all citizens from some of the tragic consequences of the abortion industry.  Indiana passed legislation requiring that centers distributing chemical abortions meet the same requirements as centers doing surgical abortions.  Several deaths have been reported in women using the abortion pill, RU-486, and yet distribution of this hemorrhage associated drug goes largely unregulated and unsupervised medically by the abortion industry and is even dispensed by mail with no medical oversight at all provided by Planned Parenthood.  Alabama’s governor signed a bill requiring abortionists to have admitting privileges at a local hospital to protect the lives and health of women.  Rep. Mary McClurkin, who sponsored the bill, said, “If an abortion clinic is truly dedicated to providing adequate care, ensuring dependable safeguards and putting patients’ needs before profits, it will embrace this legislation rather than oppose it.”  All abortion providers in the state opposed the legislation.
It is important for all of us to ask questions regarding who profits from the often too “quick and easy” solution offered to us.  At Life Center, we provide the full truth about all your choices without charge and we make no profit from whichever decision you make.  We invite you to think about all the risks and consequences of your decision and we are there to assist you long-term to make healthy choices for yourself and others.  Check us out.

A Lifeline 4 You

How does giving a much larger dose of a powerful hormonal drug, levonorgestrel, (Plan B) to minor girls without a prescription make any sense when the same drug at a much lower dose (the Pill) can only be prescribed by a supervising physician to adult women ?

Whom does this benefit?

Whom does it hurt?

Obviously, the risks of dangerous (sometimes lethal) side effects of this drug can only be increased by increasing it’s dosage.

If you have questions about what you are being asked to put in your body, please call us at (805) 486-2721 or come in to talk with one of our counselors or nurses. We will give you the facts to help you make the best decision you can.
